Dare to truly succeed: The SuperStudent mindset

Written by: Nicolas Augst

Reading time: 5min to understand why failure paralyzes you

What if your biggest limitation wasn't your schedule, or your memory... but the way you think?

In this article, you will discover how to transform your mindset to dare to truly progress, bounce back after a failure, and develop the perseverance that makes the difference.

You will learn to identify the thoughts that hold you back—and most importantly, how to replace them.

This isn't just about motivation: it's a lasting shift in perspective.

Ready to move from doubt to determination? Let’s get started.

Mindset and success: The mindset that makes all the difference

If you're struggling to move forward, if you sometimes feel blocked by failure, or if you doubt your ability to progress, it might be your mindset that is holding you back. The mindset you approach things with can literally make the difference between stagnation and success.

Today, we are going to talk about the two types of mindset defined by Carol Dweck: the fixed mindset and the growth mindset.

If you have read my previous articles, you already know that success doesn't depend only on your knowledge, but above all on your system of habits, your learning methods, and your long-term commitment. But there is another essential key that we don't discuss enough: your mindset.

Fixed Mindset: The silent enemy

The fixed mindset is the belief that your abilities are set in stone:

  • "I'm not good at math, so there's no point in trying."
  • "You're either gifted or you're not."
  • "Effort is a sign of weakness."

This way of thinking prevents you from progressing. You fear failure because you see it as proof of your incompetence rather than an opportunity for learning.

Growth Mindset: The ultimate weapon

Conversely, the growth mindset is based on a simple conviction:

Your skills are not fixed; they develop with effort and practice.

A few principles of the growth mindset:

  • Failure is not an end but a learning experience.
  • Effort is the path to excellence.
  • The brain is like a muscle; the more you train it, the stronger it becomes.

How to shift from a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset?

1. Relearn how to see failure

Rather than seeing failure as proof of incompetence, perceive it as feedback. Ask yourself these questions:

  • What did I learn?
  • How can I do better next time?
  • What immediate action can I take to progress?

2. Replace "I can't" with "I can't YET"

Add "yet" to your sentences:

  • "I don't understand this concept... YET."
  • "I can't run a half-marathon in 1h50... YET."

This simple change in language helps you see things from a different angle.

3. Focus on effort rather than the result

Rather than thinking "I absolutely must get an A," focus on "I will work consistently and improve every day."

4. Change who you surround yourself with

The people around you influence your mindset. Surround yourself with people who believe in progress and push you to move forward.

Taking action: the only real key

Knowledge without action is useless. You can read every book in the world, watch videos, and accumulate study notes, but if you don't apply anything, you will stay in the same place.

So ask yourself:
📌 What am I going to put into practice, right now, to truly dare to succeed?

Don't put it off until tomorrow. Choose an action, and do it now. Not in an hour, not after scrolling through Instagram. Now.

In summary

✅ The fixed mindset blocks you and makes you believe your abilities are static.
✅ The growth mindset allows you to see effort and failure as learning opportunities.
✅ Changing your mindset is a matter of daily training and practice.

Actionable steps:

✅ When you encounter an obstacle, rephrase your thought: "I can't do it YET."

✅ Develop a positive view of failure by seeing it as feedback.

✅ Surround yourself with people who have a growth mindset and distance yourself from the "it's impossible" crowd.

✅ Replace "I want to succeed" with "I want to learn and progress every day."
